Hal Gerstein, MD       Medical Director
Medical Oncology, Hematology and Immunology

Our practice is committed to providing each of our patients with an exceptional level of care and attention in the setting of a new modern private facility. Our dedicated staff works together as a team, led by Dr. Hal Gerstein, to provide high-quality comprehensive care in the comfort of a private office. We take pride in paying close attention to each patient's needs and tailoring therapy to each patient's individualized needs, utilizing a full array of chemotherapy, hormone therapy, immunotherapy, nutritional and vitamin therapy, hyperthermia and killer T-cell enhancement therapy. Our practice is proud to be completely physician owned and operated and Dr. Gerstein continues to be one of the premiere solo practitioners in medical oncology on Long Island. Founded in 1986, the Cancer Institute of Long Island remains one of the premier solo medical oncology private practices on Long Island. We have resisted the trend toward merging practices because we understand the need for personal and consistent care. Each patient is treated like a member of our family. Our compassionate, professional staff is dedicated to providing the highest level of care possible. Because we are physician owned, we are patient driven. This means that we can focus more on providing excellent care, and less on the bottom line. We are not tied to any large medical corporation and we are not hospital-owned. We provide up-to-date and effective care that is responsive to you and your needs only.

This practice specializes in treating cancers of the breast, lung, gastrointestinal tract (including esophageal, gastric, pancreatic, liver, gallbladder, small and large intestine, rectum and anus) as well as lymphomas, multiple myeloma, chronic leukemias and other diseases of the bone marrow such as chronic anemias, red and white blood cell problems and platelet abnormalities. Non-malignant autoimmune disorders relating to the blood cells are treated as well. A particular interest is in neuroendocrine tumors of the gi tract and pancreas.

We offer consultative services, chemotherapy, hormone therapy and immune therapy as well as hyperthermia and nutritional programs.  Selected alternative and complementary medicine approaches, such as high dose vitamin drips, mineral infusions and killer T-cell enhancement may be incorporated into a patient's treatment program. We also work closely with our patients' primary care physicians.
